John Fitzgerald Kennedy Collection, 1960–1964. (9 items)
The John F. Kennedy Collection, 1960–1964, contains memorabilia concerning President Kennedy’s visit to Texas, including the text for two speeches Kennedy intended to deliver in Dallas and Austin.
Edwin A. Walker Papers
The Edwin A. Walker Papers contain correspondence, legal and military documents, publications, clippings, audiocassette tapes, books, and artifacts. The collection focuses on his gubernatorial campaign, military life, and general correspondence. It includes materials on the Kennedy Assassination and the Warren Commission.
Kubicek Collection on the Assassination of JFK
The Kubicek Collection on the Assassination of John F. Kennedy, 1963–1990, includes books, magazines, news clippings, pamphlets, government reports, typescripts of transcribed radio interviews, and scrapbooks concerning the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Furthermore, the collection contains scrapbooks related to the Garrison investigation, the Warren Commission, William Manchester, Lee Harvey Oswald, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Dr. Milton Helpern.
John Singleton Papers
The John V. Singleton Papers contain the professional papers of retired U. S. Federal Judge John Singleton of Houston, including photos, resumes, court opinions, trial documents, case files, transcripts of oral history interviews, and correspondence with President John F. Kennedy, Governor John Connally, Vice President Lyndon Johnson, and Jim Wright.
Congressional Collections
Henry B. Gonzales Papers
The Henry B. Gonzalez Papers include correspondence, committee records, campaign files, schedules, personal schedules, appointments, legislative files, photographs, video and audiotapes, memorabilia, and artifacts. It also contains materials related to Gonzalez as co–chair of Kennedy’s “Viva Kennedy” effort and Gonzalez’s effort to establish a congressional committee to investigate the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr.
Jack B. Brooks Papers
On November 22, 1963, Brooks rode in the motorcade carrying President John F. Kennedy and many members of the Texas Congressional delegation through downtown Dallas. Following President Kennedy’s assassination, Brooks stood by during the swearing in of President Lyndon Johnson on Air Force One at Dallas’ Love Field. Brooks’ Papers includes correspondence, printed materials, creative works, legal documents, financial documents, minutes, photographic materials, and sound recordings.
Barefoot Sanders Papers
The Barefoot Sanders Papers contain correspondence, news clippings, printed materials, photographs, notes, campaign materials, and speeches documenting Barefoot Sanders’ personal and public life. The Barefoot Sanders Papers also include speeches and notes on the Kennedy assassination.
Ralph Yarborough Papers and Oral History Collection
The Ralph Webster Yarborough Papers, 1836, 1844, 1911–1988, are comprised of newspaper clippings, correspondence, legislative records, campaign materials, speeches, press releases, research files, financial records, audiovisual recordings, photographs, scrapbooks, invitations, and maps, which document the life and political career of U.S. Senator Ralph Yarborough. The bulk of the correspondence pertains to Yarborough’s activities as a United States Senator from Texas, and also includes the Kennedy campaign and Kennedy’s 1963 trip to Texas.
Sam Rayburn Papers
Sam Rayburn, Speaker of the U. S. House of Representatives for 17 years, was involved in Texas and national politics. His papers include correspondence, speeches, interviews, newspaper clippings, printed materials, financial records, maps, charts, photographs, and reports documenting his political career. The bulk is comprised of correspondence from government officials and constituents, including John F. Kennedy.
Photography Collections
Eddie Adams Photographic Archive
Measuring 163 linear feet in size, the Eddie Adams Photographic Archive spans Adams’ entire career as a photojournalist in the U.S. and abroad. This Pulitzer Prize winner’s collection includes photographs of John F. Kennedy’s funeral.
Shel Hershorn Photographic Archive
The Shel Hershorn Photographic Archive includes photographic negatives, prints, contact sheets, tear sheets, color transparencies, publications, and other materials produced by Hershorn and documenting his career as a photojournalist. Based in Dallas, Hershorn’s work reflected mostly Texas themes. The archive includes photos of Lee Harvey Oswald, the mood in Dallas after the assassination, the Kennedy-Johnson campaign in Texas, and the Garrison Investigation.
Flip Schulke Photographic Archive
This collection contains Schulke’s work on the civil rights movement, as well as his underwater and space flight images, and his acclaimed photographs of Jacques Cousteau, Fidel Castro, John F. Kennedy, and Muhammad Ali/Cassius Clay. Flip Schulke’s Photographic Archive includes photos of the Kennedy funeral and the Texas Book Depository immediately after the assassination.
Wally McNamee Photographic Archive
The Wally McNamee Photographic Archive is comprised of more than 300,000 images in a variety of formats, including color and black/white negatives, transparencies, prints, and manuscript and printed material. This vast photographic archive includes photos of the Kennedy family after the assassination and of the Kennedy funeral.
Bruce Roberts Photographic Archive
The images in this collection chronicle the Southern experience during a significant transitional period in its history. Roberts photographed most of the prominent politicians and other public figures of his time, including Jim Bakker, Billy Graham, Lyndon Baines Johnson, John F. Kennedy, Edmund Muskie, and Elvis Presley.
George Tames Photographic Archive
The George Tames Photographic Archive consists primarily of the photographic print files and exhibit prints of George Tames, a photographer for the New York Times from 1945 until 1985. Subjects include the American presidency from Franklin Roosevelt to George H. W. Bush, Congress and politics, scenic features, monuments, and photos of Kennedy presidency including the acclaimed photo, “The Loneliest Job.”
Dirck Halstead Photographic Archive
This photographic material covers Halstead’s work from the 1950s through 2001, and includes subject matter such as world events, topical news stories, famous personalities, and the United States presidencies from Kennedy to Clinton. The personal papers include presidential trip itineraries, magazines (and magazine covers), and assignment materials related to his work with United Press International (UPI) and Time magazine.
New Media Collections
Dallas Morning News Kennedy Administration Editorial Records
The Dallas Morning News Kennedy Administration Editorial Records, 1961–1963, document the public response to the paper’s editorials on President John F. Kennedy’s Administration, conservative advertisements in the paper related to Kennedy Administration policies, and the assassination of President Kennedy. In addition to newspaper clippings and pages, the collection consists of over 3,500 letters, telegrams, and telephone messages to DMN editors and staff, primarily to the paper’s publishers, Joe and Ted Dealey.
Gannett Newspaper Collection
Notable individuals, leaders, and events in United States and world history during the period of 1917–1987 are represented in the Gannett Newspaper Collection. This collection is comprised of both U.S. and foreign newspapers. The collection is arranged alphabetically, by subject, including a subject heading on John F. Kennedy.
Seth Kantor Papers
The Seth Kantor Papers include draft versions of Kantor’s publications; research notes; photographs; news clips; correspondence; ephemera from the House Committee on Assassinations; and cassette recordings of his personal remembrances and journalistic interviews. Kantor, a print journalist, was deeply involved in the coverage of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
Les Midgley Papers
The Les Midgley Papers, 1936–2002, are comprised of articles, correspondence, news story drafts and scripts, and research materials documenting his numerous television shows and news reports about the Vietnam War, the banking industry, President John F. Kennedy’s assassination and the Warren Report, and his years with The Evening News with Walter Cronkite.
Walter Cronkite Papers
The Walter Cronkite Papers, 1932–2007, cover the noted CBS newsman’s more than five-decades-long career as one of the nation’s most respected journalists. This important collection includes media and clippings regarding the Kennedy Assassination.
