Winedale Historical Complex, Round Top, Texas
Texas quilters regularly honor their state by creating Texas-themed commemorative, patriotic, and family quilts. Many incorporate recognizable Texas symbols and designs, such as the five-pointed star, the state flag, and the State Seal of Texas. Other design favorites depict some aspect of our state’s history or natural resources, such as the Alamo or the bluebonnet. Pictorial quilts with a Texas theme are often more personal, featuring a specific event, location, or person, such as a family home or a much-loved ancestor. The Briscoe Center’s Winedale Quilt Collection gives special attention to quilts made in Texas. Deep in the Heart assembled Texas-themed quilts that span more than 150 years of quiltmaking. Several of these quilts were exhibited for the first time.
