The Briscoe Center mourns the loss of Carolyn Hye Becknell Weatherby.
Mrs. Weatherby’s efforts were instrumental to the Briscoe Center’s acquisition of the Dr. T. Karman Weatherby Map Collection. Composed of hundreds of historic maps, the collection documents battles, cities, frontier territories, nations, and continents across a number of centuries. The center’s Weatherby Gallery was named in honor of Dr. and Carolyn Weatherby, thanks to the Weatherby family’s philanthropic support.
“We are saddened by the loss of Mrs. Weatherby, a gracious lady and a good friend to the center,” said Don Carleton, executive director. “We are grateful for her efforts on our behalf, and it is our honor to ensure the legacy of Carolyn and Karman through our exhibitions program and, of course, the preservation of the Weatherby Map Collection, an invaluable resource for the study of history.”
