Center Hosts Christmas at Winedale on December 13, 2008

ROUND TOP, Texas — Christmas at Winedale 2008 is Saturday, December 13, from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.
Bring the entire family to get in the Christmas spirit, and experience how people celebrated the holidays during the nineteenth century. The event is hosted by Winedale Historical Complex, a division of the Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin.
Tour Winedale’s historic homes, decorated as they would have been in the 1800s. View folklife demonstrations of whittling, quiltmaking, weaving, spinning, blacksmithing, basket weaving, and much more. Visit the Raven Rangers’ campsite to see examples of Civil War military life.
Watch for the Weihnachtsmann (Santa Claus), who will be giving out candy coins to children. Children can also make old-fashioned crafts in Winedale’s one-room schoolhouse.
Take stagecoach and covered wagon rides from house to house. Visit the farm animals in our corral. Sit and be entertained in our theatre barn by the German singers, an oompah band, dulcimer players, fiddlers, Round Top Children’s Choir, Shakespeare players, and more.
Food and drinks will be available for sale. Winedale Historical Complex, located four miles northeast of Round Top at 3738 FM 2714 (off FM 1457).
