Briscoe Center, LBJ Library present, ‘An Evening with Diana Walker
and Lucian Perkins’
Acclaimed photojournalists to discuss their favorite images from News to History exhibit

AUSTIN, Texas — The Briscoe Center and the LBJ Presidential Library will host, An Evening with Diana Walker and Lucian Perkins, Thursday, March 7 at the LBJ Auditorium.
Walker and Perkins, both internationally acclaimed photojournalists, have spent much of their professional careers covering the White House. Both have work featured in the current Briscoe Center exhibit, News to History: Photojournalism and the Presidency, also being hosted at the LBJ Library.
Walker and Perkins will discuss their favorite photographs in the News To History exhibit, as well as comment on their own experiences covering the presidency. Former television news anchor Neal Spelce will moderate the conversation. The program will begin at 6 p.m.
Open since February, News to History showcases the Briscoe Center’s photography collection, highlighting the thirteen presidential administrations from the 1930s to the present. In addition, the exhibit features images of the events and personalities that helped to define each president’s tenure, capturing the interaction of the president with his times.

The LBJ Auditorium is located on the lower level of the LBJ complex at 2313 Red River Street. Access to the Auditorium will be through the lobby of the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Free parking is available in the Library visitors’ lot (#38), and lots #37 and #39 after 5:00 p.m. Overflow parking will be in Manor Garage on a self-pay, space available basis.

Showcasing the Briscoe Center’s unparalleled photographic collections, News to History highlights the thirteen presidential administrations from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Barack Obama. The exhibit features the iconic images that captured the interaction of each president with their era.
Since 1992, the Center has conducted an ambitious program to collect and preserve the historically valuable imagery produced by photojournalists. The photographers whose work is displayed in News to History have placed their archives with the Briscoe Center. Today, the Briscoe Center preserves the largest single collection of photographs of the U.S. presidency outside of Washington, D.C.
In addition to photographic holdings (such as slides, negatives, prints, and tear sheets), the photojournalism collections comprise such archival materials as personal papers, correspondence, diaries, news stories, and three-dimensional artifacts. The combination of these materials provides researchers with remarkable primary source evidence for interpreting history. The Briscoe Center is an organized research unit of the University of Texas at Austin.
