Mrs. Katherine J. Adams
Austin, TX
Honorary Ambassadors Council member
Kate Adams moved to Austin in 1975 with her family and earned an M.A. in Library and Information Science from The University of Texas at Austin. She joined Dr. Carleton at the Barker Texas History Center in 1981 and worked alongside him to help build the Briscoe Center we know today. She retired in 2002. Always fascinated by the history of American quilts, Kate returned in 2008 to serve as the center’s first quilt curator. While in this role, she researched and wrote Comfort and Glory: Two Centuries of American Quilts from the Briscoe Center, published by UT Press in 2016. Mrs. Adams joined the center’s Ambassadors Council upon her retirement in 2016.
When she is not working, Mrs. Adams likes to garden, read, and, especially, to swim at Barton Springs Pool with her husband, David.
