Briscoe Center Announces Implementation of Aeon for Patrons and Staff
The Briscoe Center is pleased to announce our implementation of Aeon, a new online system that will be used by patrons both at home and in the center’s reading room. Aeon is an automated request software program specifically designed for archives like the Briscoe Center.
“The incorporation of Aeon into the center’s request process is a win-win for patrons and our staff,” said Margaret Schlankey, director of public services at the Briscoe Center. “We believe it will lead to a smoother, faster process—both for the center to register researchers and for researchers to request materials.”
Visitors to the Briscoe Center’s reading room can use Aeon to register online as a new or visiting researcher, as well as order research materials online prior to their visit. Until now, visitors were required to register or request materials in person at the center. While this is still possible, researchers now have the option of streamlining their visits by registering and ordering materials online.
Setting up a researcher account with the center through Aeon is quick, simple, and only needs to be done once. Once registered, visitors can sign back into their account as often as they want. Once signed in they can:
- Request materials for viewing
- Track materials already requested
- View their previous request history.
Aside from the new registration and request system, a visitor’s experience to the center remains the same—they will still need to follow all applicable policies and procedures during their research visit. For a full list of reading room policies and procedures, please see our Plan Your Visit page.
“In the future, we will be implementing additional Aeon features for patrons and staff,” said Stephanie Malmros, director of research and collections at the Briscoe Center. “We are excited to enhance our researcher experience here at the center.”
