Reception for Darryl Heikes Exhibit

The Center for American History will host a reception on November 27, 2007, in celebration of its current exhibit, “A Deadline Every Minute: Photographs from the Darryl Heikes Archive.” The award-winning photojournalist will attend the reception, held at Flatbed Press & Gallery.
“A Deadline Every Minute” features 25 revealing news pictures taken by Heikes that document great moments in politics, the Olympics, and world changing events from 1959 to 2001. The exhibit is on display until January 31, 2008 at Flatbed Press, which is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both the reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
For four decades, Heikes’ photographs have appeared in leading publications worldwide. These include the front pages of The New York Times, New York Daily News, Washington Post, and the covers of U. S. News and World Report. Throughout his career, many of his photographs have won awards from the White House News Photographers Association, Picture of the Year Competition, and World Press.
Darryl Heikes recently selected the Center for American History as the permanent repository for his photographic archive, now part of the Center’s News Media History Archive. Documenting the development of the American news media industry, this extensive archive includes the collections of nationally recognized photojournalists whose images have captured important national and international newsmakers and events.
